Today I heard on the news that John McCain referred to those members of the Tea Party who support a balanced budget over wasteful compromise "the tea-party Hobbits (who) could return to Middle-earth having defeated Mordor". Now while I have no qualms being compared to a hobbit defeating Mordor, I must take issue with the notion that Mordor was somehow not part of Middle-earth. It is very much so.
