Trodding through the Slough of Despond

Note: This is a reposting of a C4P comment made at C4P.

Thank you for your service, Bobby. We need more men like you, not just in the military, but in government, the press, and the schools. Everywhere.

Unfortunately, you cannot talk cowards into courage. And it is just that-the lack of moral courage-that will result in the decline and eventual fall of this nation-as you have justly pointed out.

We have been mentally absent as a people. It is not in a vacuum that many of the problems we complain about occur year after year-no, we, the American people did have a hand in it. We elected the politicians that promised us so much but delivered so little. They whispered sweet nothings in our ears and did nothing to reduce the massive national debt. They sit idly by and throw gimmicks at our public education system as it crumbles around us. Instead program after program is burnished and presented to public. We are being bribed. Bribed by politicians who offer to take from the "rich" and give it back in the form of some federal subsidy. And what do we do? We not only accept the bribes, but demand more. Complacency has destroyed our independent spirit, and has weakened our resolve. Pathetic.

How can we tell this? Look around. Whenever we have some problem-some national crisis-we always look to government. Your retirement? Government? Health care? Government? College tuition? Government? Everyone looks to government for some sort of answer. We need to stop that! Only by looking inward as a nation can we solve the many challenges that face us. It is our individual strength and determination that made this country what is today, and it is only those same qualities that will allow us to survive-and I say this straight from the heart.

Sarah Palin not only understands this, she lives it. She is not dependent on any government official but thrives off the prosperity produced by many years of hard work and labor. She lives this everyday. She is beholden to no man. She begs from no one. She provides for her family, and they want not. A government program did not ensure this. Only her persistence and skill made that possible.

Governor Palin represents some of the very best we have to offer. She is simply an American, independent and strong, willing to stand up for what is right and protect her family. She is not perfect, no one is-but she is very human. With that comes both our race's foibles but also our many strengths-given to use by God to overcome evil. Those we all have, and should we chose to exercise them, then we are the better for it. The Governor has these traits in abundance.

These same characteristics will guide her through a term as President as well as they have served as Governor in Alaska. Though many may denounce her, let us not forget that many also have suffered attacks to their reputation and person for simply speaking the truth; John Bunyan had his his character impugned, he was persecuted, and then imprisoned. Yet none of that was able to stop him from doing that which was right in God's eyes. We must hold the same course, even though it be difficult. We must trod through our Slough of Despond. We must persevere. We must keep the faith.
